Avertians, the Prehistoric Humans

prehistoric Avertian (2), and the modern Giant (3)
Avertians are the prehistoric ancestor to the Giants of Felas. Their civilization came to a brutal end 3.2 million years ago. Most died in an extinction event of their own creation, and those that survived would evolve into the modern Giants - still magically powerful but less intelligent, and physically stronger despite shrinking.
History
The Avertian Civilization Period, (ACP), lasted about 300,000 years - from 3.5-3.2mya. This is the period when the race lived across the globe; for most of their history their societies were divided like modern Earth, but near the end of the ACP the Avertian race united under a single global state.
The ACP is split into five ages: Copper, Bronze, Iron, Steel, and Magic. Their history is like modern Earth; in fact, in the Magic Age their technology is advanced enough for much of today's technology. They had quick and accessible global teleportation, near-instantaneous messaging, unlimited food and clean water, and eventually a mining colony on the magic-moon.
Magic Age Extinction
The Avertian's downfall was their hubris. They believed themselves masters over Felas' magic, harnessing it as raw power for their technology. They created power-plants that mass-produced self-replicating magic energy, which dotted the globe and was the heart of the Magic Age Avertian civilization.
Underground Cities
The only evidence of the Avertians' existence in the modern world are the countless underground labyrinth-like structures that became commonplace with the beginning of the Magic Age. The surface was left to nature, tended to by gardeners. The tunnels were massive, extending as deep as 7.4 miles/12 km underground and typically housing a population in the 20-30k's.
Most cities have been lost to time, its surface entrances buried under shifting ground and collapsing stone. Within the tunnels, passageways are easily blocked by cave-ins and earthquakes, or an entire bottom portion being flooded after a natural spring broke through a wall.
The first modern human to discover one of these lost entrances was around the PG 6,000s, modern-day Kaapuwe. This ancient discovery would be the start of many myths and legends for cultures around the area, attempts at settlements lost to history. The first true city settled within an Underground Tunnel entrance was Balkanteki in the PG 4,300s. It quickly became a massive trading center, located near one of the largest passes in the Silver Peaks.
Many cities have discovered underground passages that directly link them, allowing for relatively simple and safe travel below the mountains. In reality, more connections exist but humans haven't discovered them for numerous reasons: cave-ins, flooding, sheer depth, etc.
Modern Settlements
Vallakovas
One of the wealthiest city-state nations in its time. It was first discovered in the PG 4,800s, established in by the Nhekiam-diin House and ruled under the family until it was conquered by the Namrok nation of Æmia during the Winter Massacres.
