Southeast Basin

Within the Basin, there are a number of charicatures that share aspects. There's the Sun-King and Sun-Wife; depending on the culture either the King or Wife guided the sun across the sky. He was the king of gods, typically depicted as a warrior but Atrían customs saw him peaceful and more like a scholar. He was the eldest of the All-Mother, one of the most important deities in the ancient Atrían pantheon. She was a creation deity; in some legends she was the creator deity. She was the life-giver to everything, but when the Empire began to spread its influence they suppressed her worship. They wouldn't outright ban it, but her significance was greatly diminished.

The Sun-King often had children, daughters who made up the Sun-Sisters. The number varied, the average being 3-4 to represent the three moons and a sister of eclipses. They weren't always daughters; in ancient Atrían belief there was only a single Sun-Sister, and she was Lamok's sister.

Another figure is the Mother-Medic, who was associated with healing and medicine alongside motherhood and childhood. In some cultures, the All-Mother also acted as Mother-Medic. In some cultures she'd also be the guardian of the home and hearth.

  • Afterlife & Burial

There are three fates one can meet after death. These underworlds are believed to be physical layers deep underground, further than humans can ever dig. (Afterlives are not permanent, once the soul is purified its reborn.)

    Morality

    Mythology

The universe is split into three realms: the Realm of God, the Realm of Man, and the Realm of Spirits. Each Realm is split into levels; Zlemživik consists of Iŋakníl (ee-gnak-neel) (also spelled Ignaknil), the Aitu name for Felas, as well as three levels of afterlife.

Zlemyuvír (z-lehm-yoo-veer), the Realm of God, was where the gods resided. It was inaccessible to humans, living or dead. The gods used to live on Ignaknil in the First Age, but abandoned humanity and created the Second Age.

Zlemživik (zlehm-zchih-vihk), the Realm of Man, was the land of humanity. It was the land of the living, Ignaknil, and three lands of the dead. The three underworlds are: Lyubkany, the most populated afterlife for the average human; Pukladzemy, the afterlife for those who lived sinfully; and Bevišertya, the afterlife for heroes and other important people.

Zlemnukdorny (zlem-nook-dohr-nee), the Realm of Spirits, was the origin of magic in Ignaknil. It was where magical creatures came from, where incorporeal spirits reside when not manifesting in Zlemživik.

    Deities

The gods exist in the Realm of God, unaccessible to humans living or dead. They can affect the Realm of Man without physically manifesting in the world, but can take on many forms across Iŋakníl (een-yak-neel), the Atrían name for Felas. Many gods are the amalgimation of similar deities from different cultures, morphed into a single canonical figure for imperial citizens to worship.

    Major Gods

    Rímet-Zvondír
    (ree-meht zvohn-deer)
    Epithets: The Eternal/First King
    Symbols: Bear
Rímet is the mythological-historical figure, the man who brought together the ancient Atrían clans and ruled as the first king. He had 13 children, 7 sons and 6 daughters, who would create the new clans of Atría. The title "Zvondír" means "Eternal One".
When Tankyo became Iŋolbí at the start of the Imperial Era he declared himself a reincarnation of the Eternal King, reborn to bring the Atrían people to a new era of wealth. Each emperor after him, as long as he was of Tankyo's blood, had a dormant spirit that would be awakened upon coronation.

    Atéavír
    (uh-tay-uh-veer)
    Epithets:
    Symbols:
Atéavír is the Atrín River, the father of the Atrían people, and the patron god of the capitol city Zílevo (Zee-leh-voh.

    Domvír
    (dohm-veer)
    Epithets:

Domvír is the god of the sea, although originally he was the god of all bodies of water aside from the Atrín. Historically he was seen as a creator deity, the father of Atéavír, and the slayer of sea beasts; he brought the rains and commanded the seasonal winds. He wasn't widely worshipped by the Atrían people, but when Tankyo established the Empire he became one of the most important deities in the pantheon.

    Lamok
    (lah-mohk)
    Epithets: Sun-King
    Symbols:
Lamok is the Sun-King, a theological figure found in some aspect or another across the basin. The king of the gods, riding across the sky as he kept an eye on Zlemživik, the Realm of Man. In the Empire, he's the god of time and the calendar, agriculture, and education/literacy.

    Minor Gods

    Kuzlan & Kuzlovik
    (kooz-lahn), (kooz-loh-vihk)
    Epithets:
    Symbols:
Kuzlan is the king of the three Underworlds, watching over to make sure no deceased spirit escapes their fate. Kuzlovik is his son and the one who guides souls from Ignaknil to their destined afterlife. Kuzlovik is depicted as a goat herder, and both son and father are considered benevolent.

    Pulfína
    (pool-fee-nah)
    Epithets:
    Symbols:
When the Empire spread and conquered the Stamsvi to the north, their god Polfaark assimilated into Pulfína and she was pushed into the Mother-Medic figure known throughout the Basin. In Atría, Níl acted as Mother-Medic until the Empire supressed her worship and declared Pulfína the Mother-Medic. In modern-day, Pulfína is also associated with music and dance, the seasonal changes, motherhood and the home. She's the Sun-Wife, but under the Empire the title wasn't significant.

    Sun-Sisters
    Epithets:
    Symbols:
In traditional Atrían belief the Sun-Sister was just one deity: Slova. When the Empire assimilated cultures and brought in other adaptions of the Sun-Sisters, she instead became the eldest of Lamok's children.

She used to be the god of many things, like motherhood, music, magic, life and death, marriage and family. The Empire took away much of her cultural significance, and for a period of time even restricted her worship. In modern day, she was the patron god of marriage, only envoked during vows.

    Women

Atría used to be matriarchal, common in the Basin. Women were powerful figures in society, nearly equal to men. However, when Tankyo took over he implemented societal norms from his homeland of Betusk. He heavily restricted women's rights, and smothered the cultural significance of many feminine deities.
