Project Felas

Hi! You can call me Rye or Punk, and this is my writing project!

Felas is the name of the planet, similar to Earth but with its own unique twists. The stories I write in Felas are what I'd consider "worldbuilding exercises" - excuses for me to flesh out certain aspects of the world like countries, cultures, histories, etc. And this site is going to be all that information put up for others to see! What I'll do with the actual stories themselves, I'm not sure yet. I'm the type to constantly go back and revise my writing. I used to have the dream of becoming a published author, but I've since lost interest in becoming any sort of "professional" writer. Especially in this economy. Yeesh. Maybe if the future changes the writing and publishing scenes, I'll reconsider.

For as long as I could remember, I've loved to write. I have other series I go back to and work on occasionally, and while Felas may not be my oldest working project, it's by far the most in-depth. There are a lot of core concepts that I've had that eventually became part of Felas, mainly plots that I decided to put into the same universe rather than having them be separate. That's the main reason why the plots are primarily disconnected, spanning the course of a century and set across the globe.

I've had the idea of putting Felas up on a site for a while. For the many years I've been working on it, it's almost been exclusively for my eyes. Sometimes I'd try and share information with close friends, but I always felt like there was just so much to share and too much context behind every aspect that I started considering putting up someplace they could read it at their own pace. And at least with neocities, opposed to sites like WorldAnvil, I don't have to worry about condensing my lore to fit within an unpaid membership's worth of pages. I just won't have as many fancy graphics unless I finally get a good foothold in coding.

At a Glance

Felas is a world with magic, considered another aspect or force of nature. Magic energy flows through everything living or inanimate. While it can be revered or worshipped as something sacred, to others it's seen as just a natural part of the world. Humans are not inherently magic, but aside from a small percent of the population anyone could theoretically begin studying and become a magician.

I use many periods of history as inspiration for Felas, from the late Bronze Age/early Iron Age, to the Age of Discovery, to the Renaissance and the Industrial Revolution. Especially in more "modern" plotlines, magic and technology have blended into "spelltech" (name subject to change). In spelltech, magic acts as the power supply for things such as lighting, plumbing and machinery. The very latest I would compare "modern" technology to is 18th to 19th century Earth, but on average I would say it's on par with Renaissance-era technology.
