Vallakovas is the first book in the Felas Chronicles. It's set in the year PG 48, and follows young Prince Antis's exploration into the Outer Tunnels. The story is told through Antis' POV, an old man in "present day" compiling his life's work in records and journals about his spelltech research.

While the main plot is Antis exploring the Tunnels, there's another plot going on. After the death of their father, Antis' older sisters are fighting for the throne. It gets so serious that the younger Egita banishes herself from the city, and the older Zanna falls into paranoia that she'd return to kill her for the throne.

In this story, I reveal a connection between Felas and Earth. The prehistoric Avertians developed incredibly advanced technology, and had designed portals to access the other world.

Summary

Historical Context

The Nhekiam-diin family has ruled the underground city of Vallakovas for centuries. During its reign, the city first began researching what would become modern spelltech.

During the Golden Age of Ussiar Colonization (roughly PG 400-340), powerful nami states invaded erylai land and fought brutally for control. The coasts west of the Silver Peaks were the most popular colony locations. Vallakovas was located near the southern end of the mountains, not considering the underground city worth the trek. But when Vallakovas started seriously dedicating research into magic and spelltech, the nami started taking notice.

In PG 124, the king of Æmia officially set his sights on the city. By then, Vallakovas was becoming renowned for its spelltech technological research. King Nantikar Keonand-ta (PG 163-108) saw through their attempts of diplomacy, stories of nami regularly breaking treaties for their benefit. Æmia tried to invade the city three times: in PG 123, in PG 120, and in PG 111. After the third invasion, the king fell ill and his son took command. Instead of continuing the attacks, however, Æmia pulled its forces out and would leave the city alone... for the time being.

Much of Vallakovas' defenses came from their alliances. The city connected to two others in the area, Ville and Vinenki, and the three formed a powerful alliance that drove off many nami invasions. However, in PG 83, Vinenki was taken over. The underground passages were hidden, and Vallakovas would even cause cave-ins at multiple points to make sure the nami couldn't find their way to them.

King Prachiv Naris-ta (PG 102-55) was crowned at age 19, after his father was killed in battle. He had traveled to support Vinenki, and returned wrapped in a shroud. The battle was a failure as well, the city falling to Æmia.

In PG 81 Prachiv married a noblewoman from Ville, Kalei Seeha-lan. Kalei had always been inflicted with illness, either physical or mental. They struggled to concieve for a few years, their first child being stillborn. In PG 78, she'd have her first living children - twins, no less. It was considered a miracle she and the girls survived.

When Kalei was revealed to be pregnant again four years later, there were those concerned for the Queen's health. She was passionate about her child, determined to bring them into the world. There were complications. The baby was born premature, and Kalei's life was taken in return for. That next day, there was an eclipse on the magic-moon; many nobles say it as a bad omen, that the child was cursed. King Prachiv swore to protect him, doing everything in his power to make sure he survived. This was Prince Antis, his older sisters nammed Zanna and Eigta.

Plotline

The story proper begins with Antis' love for the Outer Tunnels. His father was overprotective, worried for Antis' fragile health. It was Zanna who rebelled and took Antis to explore the Tunnels. It was difficult at first, with Antis quick to run out of breath. He planned to learn magic to help him explore, but his father worried magic would overwhelm his body. In response, Antis secretly studied off his sisters' studies.

When he was 14, he started sneaking out on his own. He had a high affinity for magic, and had developed a Wind spell that helped him stand and walk with less stress on his legs.

The primary characters from Felas are members of the city royal family. The protagonist is Prince Antis, the youngest with older twin sisters Zanna and Egita.
