Element of Life

Life magic is unique in that it doesn't have a pure form, the magician needing to manifest it through another element. It's most common use is for medicinal purposes, but it can also be used for: translators to cross language barriages, communication with animals/plants, and farming. Life magic can also be used in necromancy, bringing life to the dead, and animation, bringing life to the inanimate.

There are two types of necromatic spells, reanimation and resurrection. Reanimation does not bring someone back from the dead, their living corpse a mindless servant for the magician. Resurrection does bring the dead back to life, but how much of the person remained depends on how decomposed the body is. Resurrecting someone within hours of their death will result in minor memory loss, but resurrecting a half-decayed corpse will not only wipe the magician of nearly all their energy but also bring the person back with little to no memory of who they were before.

Animation spells are far more complicated, requiring nearly all a magician's energy and regular recasting. The more the object being animated resembles a human or animal, the more intelligent the construct is. All successful constructs can follow commands, but smarter ones can act on their own will when not under order.

Philosophy of Life

PHILOSOPHY: Empathy
ORGAN: Heart

Life teaches the magician to recognize their connection in the world, how all life is connected through natural energy. They aren't more important than any other person or animal or tree. Life spells tend to use more magical energy on average, what Life wizards call a "cost of balance".

Life's symbolic organ is the heart.

Life Burnout

Life Burnouts occur when a magician's spell backfires due to a selfish or greedy mindset towards life. A Burnout is considered the greatest backfire, but Life magic is the only element where a Burnout is not always fatal. Life Burnouts are extremely rare, many wizards not believing they exist at all.

When a magician triggers a Life Burnout, one of the following could happen depending on their skill and energy levels. The rarest and most dangerous scenario is the magician turning into a lich, an undead creature with only a small fraction of who they were remaining. Their only purpose is to feed on magical energy, destroying everything its in path.

A more relatively common Burnout is the creation of a hag, a humanoid creature based off the wizard's elemental focus. Green hags are from Nature magic, Ash hags are from Fire magic, Blue hags are from Water magic, Raven hags are from Wind magic, and Crystal hags are from Stone magic. There have also been cases of Swamp hags (made from Poison/Disease magic) and White hags (made from Ice magic).
